Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about how I remade a small Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag. This bag is a classic, and I’ve always wanted one. But the price tag? Ouch! So I figured, why not try to make one myself?
First things first, I gathered all the materials I needed. The main thing is the Saffiano leather, which is known for being tough and water-resistant. I managed to find some good quality leather scraps online, which was a huge relief, I chose vegetable-tanned for this project. I also needed some basic leatherworking tools – a cutter, needles, thread, and some hardware for the bag’s details. And I grabbed a zipper, too, for the main closure.
Next, I started working on the pattern. I found some similar bag patterns online and modified them to match the Galleria’s design. It was a bit tricky, especially since I wanted to get the dimensions right. After a few tries, I had a pattern I was happy with, and I cut out the leather pieces carefully. Oh, and I made sure to mark where the stitches would go, cause Prada bags have this neat, angled stitching that I wanted to copy.
Then came the sewing part. This was probably the most time-consuming, but also really satisfying. I hand-stitched most of the bag, paying close attention to keeping the stitches straight and uniform. I also made sure the stitches were angled slightly, just like the real Prada bags. It took a while, but I was so proud of how it looked when I was done.
After that, I assembled the bag. I attached the handles, added the zipper, and put in the lining. I also added some hardware, like the little metal feet at the bottom and the Prada logo, which I got from an old bag I wasn’t using anymore. I used full-grain leather because it’s more durable. It was like putting together a puzzle, but way more fun.
Finally, I finished up the bag by treating the leather with a conditioner. This helped to protect it and give it a nice sheen. I let it dry overnight, and the next day, I had my very own handmade Prada Galleria bag!
Honestly, the whole process was a lot of work, but it was so worth it. Not only did I save a ton of money, but I also got to learn a new skill and create something I’m really proud of. It’s not perfect, of course, but it’s mine, and I love it. Plus, now I know that if I ever want another classic bag, I can just make it myself!
