Okay, so, I’ve been itching to get my hands on this project for ages – remaking the PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag, you know, the original one. I’ve done a few remakes before, but this one? This one felt special. It’s just so classic, and I’m a total sucker for that whole vintage aesthetic. I mean, who isn’t, right?
First things first, I had to find a good source of photos and I will start to gather it. I spent hours, I mean hours, scrolling through online stores, blogs, everything. I wanted to see the bag from every single angle, every little detail.
Then it is time to analyze * I felt like I had enough reference material, I started breaking down the design. What kind of nylon was it? How was the chain attached? What were the exact dimensions? It’s like detective work, but with fashion.
- Sourcing the right nylon was a real pain. I went to so many fabric stores. Finally found one that was pretty darn close to the original.
- Then I bought the materials.
- Next step, drafting the pattern. This took a few tries, I won’t lie. I used some old fabric to make prototypes, tweaking things here and there until the shape looked right.
- Once I was happy with the pattern, it was time to cut the actual nylon. That was nerve-wracking! You only get one shot with the good stuff, you know?
Start to make it!
Sewing it all together was the fun part, but also super challenging. Those quilts? Not as easy as they look! It took some serious concentration to get those lines straight and even. Also, I need to install the hardwares.
The chain was another adventure. I had to find one that was the right weight, the right color, everything. And then figuring out how to attach it like the original? Let’s just say there was a lot of trial and error. After it is finished, I compared it with the photos I got.
But in the end, I have to say, I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, of course, but it definitely captures that Prada Re-Edition 1995 vibe. It is a very excited thing that I made it! I carried it out, received many compliments! It was a lot of work, but seeing the finished bag made it all worthwhile. Plus, now I have a one-of-a-kind bag that I made myself! How cool is that?
