Okay, so I got this idea the other day to try and remake the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. You know, the big one? I saw this bag online, and I just thought, “I bet I could make that.” So, I started to do some digging.
First thing, I checked out what people were saying about this bag. Turns out, it’s this special type of treated leather that old man Mario Prada himself patented. It is called “Saffiano”. And get this, the Galleria style was launched way back in 2007. People say it’s a classic and hasn’t changed much since. Pretty cool, right?
I needed to figure out what kind of leather to use. It’s called Saffiano, and apparently, it’s this genuine leather that’s been treated and embossed. It said that Saffiano leather is different from full-grain leather which can either be chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned. And the thickness can vary.
Then, I started looking at the design. The Galleria has this classic look, and it comes in a bunch of different styles like shoulder bags, mini bags, you name it. It has this timeless look, but they also come out with new versions all the time.
- Gathered all my tools and materials.
- Cut the Saffiano leather according to the pattern I sketched out, trying to match the size of the original Galleria.
- Started sewing the pieces together, which, let me tell you, was not as easy as it looks.
- Added the hardware, like the zippers and the little feet at the bottom. This part was tricky, but I managed to get it done.
After a lot of trial and error, and a few late nights, I finally finished it. It’s not exactly like the real Prada Galleria, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got that same classic vibe, and it’s definitely sturdy. Plus, I made it myself, which is pretty awesome if I do say so myself. This was a fun little project, and it turned out better than I expected. Maybe I’ll try to remake another bag sometime. What do you guys think?
