Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster, the Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” edition, model number 310.92.44.50.01.001. You know, the one with that killer black ceramic case and that see-through dial? Yeah, that’s the one. I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one for myself, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey.
First off, I started hunting for it online. I was looking everywhere, comparing prices, and reading all the info about it. The thing that caught my eye was that it’s a tribute to the Apollo 8 mission, the first time humans orbited the moon. Pretty cool, right? And the specs! It’s powered by this OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869, which sounds pretty fancy.
So, after a ton of searching, I found a couple of places that had it in stock. Some were out of stock though. And the prices, oh boy, they were all over the place! It took some serious digging to find a good deal. I noticed that some sites mentioned the watch comes with this “fold-over push-button deployment-clasp fastening” thingy for the strap, which seemed convenient.
- I saw that the case is made of ceramic, and it’s got a 44.25mm size. It’s water-resistant up to 50 meters, which is good enough for me – I’m not planning on diving with it, but it’s good to know it can handle some splashes.
- I also learned that it has a manual-wind co-axial master chronometer caliber 3869, and it’s got a 50-hour power reserve. So I should be good for a few days if I don’t wind it up every day, but I will wind it everyday.
- Then I saw that the lug width is 21mm, which is the space between those little things that hold the strap. That’s useful if I want to change the strap later.
Finally, I found a store that had it in stock at a reasonable price, and they even offered a trade-in option. I didn’t have anything to trade in, but it was good to know they offered that. I went ahead and placed the order, and the waiting began.

After what felt like forever, the package finally arrived! I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning. And there it was, in all its glory. The black ceramic case looked even better in person, and that skeletonized dial was mesmerizing. I strapped it on, and it felt amazing on my wrist. It’s a bit hefty, but in a good way. It feels solid and well-made. The rubber strap was comfortable, and that fold-over clasp was as easy to use as they said.
I’ve been wearing it for a few days now, and I’m loving it. It’s definitely a conversation starter. People keep asking me about it. I’m still getting used to winding it every day, but it’s becoming a nice little ritual.
