Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, you know, the one with that see-through back. Let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started by looking up photos, I saw lots of pics of REAL Speedys online, just to get a good look. I wanted to know what a real one looked like, up close and personal.
Then I started checking out the details. The writing and the logo on the face of the watch, they gotta be real sharp, clear as day. Same goes for all those little lines and numbers on the dial. This watch, it’s called a Moonwatch. It’s a Speedmaster. It’s got an open case back. It’s a Professional model. They say it’s a good investment. All About the Open Back. Now, this open case back. I found out that this kind of back was made special for the 30th birthday of the Speedmaster Moonwatch. It’s a bit different from the ones they made for the 20th, you know?
Next, I dug into what makes this thing tick. This special case back was produced for the 30th anniversary edition of the Speedmaster Moonwatch. This commemorative differs from previous 20th. The calibre 1863 uses more high-grade components and comes with a rhodium-plated finish and an open case-back to be able to admire the movement in action. I learned about the calibre 1863 movement inside. Turns out, it’s got some fancy parts, all shiny and silver-colored. And that see-through back? That’s so you can watch all those little gears and springs do their thing. And it’s got that open case back, so you can see all them little things movin’ inside. Makes a racket, that’s for sure! I seen pictures of it. Pretty neat, huh?
- Now, about the glass on this watch. Some folks like the old-school plastic, called Hesalite. The OMEGA Moonwatch collection is the classic Speedmaster that most people envision. With its manual-wind movement, Hesalite crystal, and black dial, it’s the closest to the original model worn on the Moon. Its design has remained largely unchanged. It scratches easy, but you can buff those scratches out. But me? I went for the sapphire crystal. It’s tough, real tough. Won’t scratch unless you really try. The exhibition case back was a must for me. Plus I plan to wear this daily, so the improved scratch resistance of the sapphire was important too. I don’t mind the white halo.
The Speedmaster Professional typically holds its value well, especially vintage models and limited editions, which can appreciate in value over time due to their rarity and collector demand. look at the laser etching on the case on the back… supposedly thats part of the anti counterfeiting measures. I did some reading about that too. Sapphire crystal definitely has the advantage in terms of durability and scratch resistance, as it is very resistant to scratches and abrasions. While not as scratch-resistant as quartz, Hesalite crystal has the advantage of being easily restored through polishing. Seems like they did that to make sure nobody’s making fake ones. This here watch, it’s called a CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, you hear? It’s got a see-through back, fancy. After checking all that, I felt pretty good about knowing what to look for.
So, I finally took the plunge and got one. And let me tell you, it was worth it. This CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, it’s a beauty. And that open case back? It’s like having a little window into a tiny, busy world. I’m pretty happy with it.
