Okay, so, I wanted to try something new. You know how everyone’s into those fancy watches? Well, I decided to remake one myself. I picked the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Yeah, I’d never heard of it before either, but it looked cool, and I was up for a challenge.
First, I had to figure out what this watch was all about. I hit up the internet, just browsing around, you know. Found some stuff about it. Apparently, it’s a “jewelry watch,” whatever that means. And it’s got this quartz movement thing, an E15, they call it. Sounds strong, right? The glass is sapphire, which is supposed to be tough and not get scratched easily. That’s a plus.
Then came the hard part, actually making it. I started with the basics, just trying to get the shape right. This Gondolo thing, it’s not your usual round watch. It’s got this, like, rectangular shape. So, I got some materials, nothing fancy, just stuff I could find. I sketched it out first, then started shaping the watch body. It wasn’t perfect, but it was starting to look like something.
Next, the inside. That E15 quartz thing, I didn’t even try to make that. I just found a cheap quartz movement online, figured it would do the job. Getting it to fit inside the case I made, that was a whole other story. Lots of trial and error, let me tell you. Used some glue, some tiny screws, whatever worked. It was messy, but I managed to get it in there.
The glass, I couldn’t find real sapphire, obviously. I used some clear plastic, cut it to size. It doesn’t look half bad, if I do say so myself. And it’s not going to scratch, at least not easily. For the strap, I just used some old leather I had lying around. Cut it, stitched it up, and attached it to the watch. It’s not the fanciest, but it holds the watch on my wrist, and that’s what matters.
So, yeah, I made a Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Well, a remake, sort of. It’s not going to fool anyone, that’s for sure. But it was a fun project. And hey, it tells the time. That’s all I really need, right?
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but also pretty satisfying to see it all come together. If you’re looking for a new hobby, give it a shot. Just don’t expect to sell your creation for thousands of dollars. This is more of a “look what I made” kind of thing.
